Everything about Bhatia totally explained
Bhatia is a caste originating in
Rajasthan, a majority of whose members follow Hinduism.
History
Bhatia literally Means "Son of Bhati/Bhatti".
The Bhatias are
Bhati (or
Bhatti) comprised mainly of
Kshatriya or disciple clans and are believed to have originated from the
Jaisalmer area of
Rajasthan. Due to continuous war with the
Mughals and severe drought in the region, almost all the Bhatias emigrated with their animals and families settling down in places such as
Kutch,
Hyderabad,
Thatta,
Nasarpur etc. Bhatias started adopting the local
language and
culture and were in the long run identified as Kutchi Bhatias, Punjabi Bhatias etc.
In 1947, with the onset of Partition, numerous Bhatias left the newly formed
Islamic Republic of Pakistan to settle down in the
Republic of India. It may be noted that most of the Bhatias are found in the states surrounding Rajasthan, in
Kutch/
Sindh in the West,
Punjab in the North, and
Madhya Pradesh in the East and also the capital of India (New Delhi).
Types of Bhatias
Among the known varieties of Bhatias, there are
Kutchi,
Halai,
Kanthi,
Navgam,
Pachisgaam,
Thattai, and
Punjabi. Bhatias from
Kutch are Kutchi Bhatias, those from around Jamnagar district are known as Kanthi Bhatia, those from Sindh (in present day
Pakistan) are known as Sindhi Bhatias, and those from Punjab (in present day India) are known as Punjabi Bhatias. Among Sindhi Bhatias, many are further identified with where they used to live (for example, Thattai, Hyderabadi, Nasarpuri Bhatias).
Bhatia's can be Jats or Gujjars or Rajputs or
Dhangars.
